Rangers Reportedly Among Finalists to Sign Slugger Nicholas Castellanos
By Ian Anderson
The Nicholas Castellanos sweepstakes is winding down and one team might be slightly ahead of the others here.
The Texas Rangers reportedly had a great meeting with Castellanos, which could put them in a pole position to sign the slugger.
Last season for the Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers, the 27-year-old was a machine at the plate. He hit .289 for the season, with 27 home runs and 73 RBI.
If the Rangers were to sign Castellanos, they'd obviously be better suited to contend in a hyper competitive AL West, the Seattle Mariners excluded. The division has already seen Anthony Rendon enter the picture with the Angels. Imagine Castellanos also joining the mix.
With most of the major superstars off the free agency board early, Castellanos is going to be one of, if not the biggest name for the foreseeable future until he is inevitably signed by a ball club to a big contract.
