Rangers Sign RHP Jordan Lyles to 2-Year Deal
By Karl Rasmussen
The Texas Rangers are being aggressive early on in free agency, and they've just added a veteran arm to the rotation.
According to Ken Rosenthal, the Rangers have come to terms on a two-year deal with Jordan Lyles that would see the right-hander make $16 million.
Lyles parlayed his strong second half into a solid payday with the Rangers. After struggling in Pittsburgh in the first half of the season, Lyles was dealt to the Brewers where he strung together an outstanding series of starts.
In 11 starts in Milwaukee, Lyles went 7-1 with a 2.45 ERA and whiffed 56 in 58.2 innings. That came on the heels of a first half that saw him log a 5.36 ERA for the Pirates.
The Rangers were clearly impressed with his showing after the trade and have inked the 29-year-old to a two-year deal.
Lyles has been somewhat of a journeyman throughout his MLB career, having debuted in the bigs with the Astros. He's since played for the Rockies, Padres Pirates, Brewers (twice), and now the Rangers.
