Rangers Trade Outfielder Nomar Mazara to White Sox
By Scott Rogust
UPDATE:
The White Sox and Rangers have struck a deal, sending Nomar Mazara to Chicago in exchange for Steele Walker.
One of the lone trades to occur at the MLB Winter Meetings on Tuesday was Zack Cozart moving from the Los Angeles Angels to the San Francisco Giants. There could be another on the horizon.
Reports indicate that the Chicago White Sox are interested in acquiring Texas Rangers outfielder Nomar Mazara. According to TR Sullivan of MLB.com, the Rangers would want White Sox outfield prospect Steele Walker in exchange.
The White Sox are obviously trying to break out of the cellar of the AL Central division. They signed top catching free agent Yasmani Grandal and are looking to add some power to their outfield.
This past season, Mozara recorded a .268 batting average, .786 OPS, along with 19 home runs and 66 RBI in 116 games.
As for Walker, he's Chicago's No. 6 prospect in the farm system. Walker played in Single-A this past season, where he recorded a .284 batting average, ten homers, and 62 RBI.
It's unknown if a trade will go down between the White Sox and Rangers, but there is obvious mutual interest.
