Ranking the Best Power Hitters in the NL East
By Brendan Balsamo
The NL East is one of the most dangerous divisions in the entire MLB in 2020. From great, young hitters to elite, veteran pitchers, it might be the most entertaining and talented division in baseball, with four teams in contention for a playoff spot.
It most certainly has no shortage of power hitters, as these ten make up some of the best they have to offer:
10. Yoenis Cespedes
Honorary No. 10 slot for Cespedes, who has some of the most prodigious power in the game, when healthy. He'll start a comeback whenever the 2020 season begins, and he's earned this based on pedigree; he's a former Home Run Derby winner and crushed 14 bombs in the second half of 2015, then 31in his only full season with the Mets.
9. Eric Thames
After three years in Milwaukee with lots of home runs, Eric Thames was picked up by the Washington Nationals this past offseason. Coming off of a 25-homer season and slotting in as the projected starting first baseman for the Nats, there could be many more coming from this massive individual.
8. Marcell Ozuna
Marcell Ozuna is coming off a 29-home run season with the St. Louis Cardinals, and will now join an elite Atlanta Braves squad that can mash with the best of 'em in 2020.
7. Rhys Hoskins
Rhys Hoskins has been hitting bombs ever since his rapid emergence in 2017, Gary Sanchez-style. After a 2019 campaign with 29 dingers, expect more nukes from the Philadelphia Phillies first baseman.
6. Michael Conforto
Michael Conforto seems to finally be reaching his power potential. The 26-year-old hit 33 home runs for the New York Mets in 2019, his best year since his All-Star berth in 2017.
5. Bryce Harper
Bryce Harper missed the All-Star Game for the second time in his career in 2019, but still put up 36 dingers. There's a reason the Philadelphia Phillies outfielder is one of the most feared hitters in the game. Need a singular highlight to communicate that fact? Watch his upper-deck walk-off against Derek Holland.
4. Freddie Freeman
Freddie Freeman posted a career high in home runs in 2019 with 38. The Atlanta Braves first baseman is entering his 11th season in the game, but is still only 30 years old.
3. Juan Soto
Despite being only 20 in 2019, Juan Soto slapped 34 homers, and showed off his muscles against the best in the game all October long. The Washington Nationals outfielder will terrorize NL East pitching for years to come.
2. Pete Alonso
As a rookie, New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso not only led MLB in home runs, but he set the rookie record for homers in a season with 53. Mets fans should be excited to have Alonso as an important piece and ambassador for years to come.
1. Ronald Acuña Jr.
The Atlanta Braves have one of the only true five-tool players in the entire MLB, and he's just getting started. Ronald Acuña Jr. cracked 41 home runs in 2019 en route to a playoff berth.
