Raptors 3-Point Promotion Has Cost McDonald's an Absurd Amount of Money
By Parker White
There's one company that hopes the Toronto Raptors wrap up the NBA Finals very soon: McDonald's.
That seems bizarre, but throughout the 2018-2019 season, including the playoffs, McDonald's have been giving away a lot of free french fries, due to a promotion bartered with the Raps. That promotion, so far, has cost the fast-food chain a fortune, as they've given away $5.8 million worth of gratis freedom fries.
The Raptors and McDonald's joined together on a season-long promotion that gives free french fries for fans in Ontario if the Raptors make at least 12 three-pointers in a game.
Well, the modern NBA is all about three-point shooting and the fast food chain has handed out more than two million orders of fries, which far exceeds the company's projected amount.
Of course, McDonald's entered this promotion with the idea that DeMar DeRozan -- who isn't a good three-point shooter -- would still be around. They finalized this deal 18 days before the blockbuster deal that brought Kawhi Leonard to Toronto.
McDonald's definitely got the short end of the stick in this deal. Good thing the popular fast food chain has a net worth of over $100 billion, so that $5.8 million is penny change to Mickey D's.
