Raptors Refusing to Give Some Actual 2018-19 Players a Ring After Giving Drake One is Absurd

In the midst of their recent championship season, the Toronto Raptors traded away Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright and CJ Miles in exchange for Marc Gasol. After plenty of devoted service (years, in Valanciunas' case), one would think that all these players earned their rings.

Especially if the Raptors gave superfan Drake and his god-awful jumpshot an official championship ring, right?

That's not the case, as the Raptors' decision not to give the trio of ex-Raps their gear rings especially hollow these days.

The decision not to give rings to Valanciunas, Wright and Miles is at the discretion of upper management, as there aren't any official rules saying who receives and doesn't receive a ring.

Two years ago, center Anderson Varejao notably received a championship ring from the Golden State Warriors even though he only played 14 games with them in their 2017 championship year before being waived in the middle of the season.

Meanwhile, Valenciunas played six and a half seasons for Toronto, while Wright spent three and a half years north of the border. Miles only spent one and a half, but he contributed infinitely more to the Raptors on the court than Drizzy.

To say that the Raptors' decision is disappointing is an understatement. One would think that out of the goodwill of their heart and their gratitude towards their three former players, the Raptors would find a way to thank each of them.

Instead, Drake will have the dubious distinction of having more official NBA rings than any of the three players without having gotten close to playing a single minute in the NBA.
