Rashaad Penny to Miss Rest of Season for Seahawks With ACL Injury
By Mark Powell
The Seattle Seahawks rushing attack just took a major gut punch.
In the Hawks' disappointing showing on Sunday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams, they suffered a loss in more ways than one, as Rashaad Penny went down with a serious-looking knee injury. On Monday, Pete Carroll confirmed as much, stating that Penny is out for the season with an ACL injury.
Penny's formed a nice one-two punch with Chris Carson in the Seahawks' ground game, which helped them emerge as the favorites in the NFC West heading into last night's contest. Seattle's rushing attack struggled without Penny, and the likes of CJ Prosise must now step into that role of splitting carries with Carson.
Penny, in just his second season for the Seahawks, has emerged as perhaps the running back of the future for a team which employs multiple talented bellcows. However, Seattle's attempt to keep the oft-injured Carson on the gridiron for the home stretch proved successful in large part because of Penny.
The injury comes just as Penny's production was starting to peak. In his past two games (excluding Sunday), he'd combined for more than 200 rushing yards on 29 carries and scored three total touchdowns.
This is a significant blow for Seattle during a crucial juncture in the season.
