Ravens to Sign Calais Campbell to 2-Year Extension After Trade With Jaguars Becomes Official
By Michael Luciano
The Baltimore Ravens traded a pick that they acquired for a backup kicker to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for defensive lineman Calais Campbell, who is fresh off another Pro Bowl at the age of 33.
As Campbell heads into the final season of is four-year, $60 million deal with Jacksonville, Baltimore announced that they will sign Campbell to a two-year extension through the 2022 season.
Campbell has made the Pro Bowl for three straight seasons in Jacksonville, and the 2019 Walter Payton Man of the Year piled up 6.5 sacks during his final season as a Jaguar. Given how he has produced over the last few years, his contract could potentially be a major bargain.
Baltimore stresses size, versatility, and power on their defensive line, and who better to fill that void than a 6-8, 300 pound bulldozer with experience at defensive tackle and defensive end?
Campbell is not going to come cheap for the Ravens, but there are few defensive lineman as versatile and consistent as him across all of football. He is exactly the type of veteran Baltimore can build around on defense.
