Ravens Star QB Lamar Jackson Named NFL's Second-Ever Unanimous MVP
By Karl Rasmussen
It comes as no surprise that Lamar Jackson was given pro football's highest individual honor on Saturday night, earning the league MVP after his prolific 2019 campaign for the Baltimore Ravens.
Jackson achieved the feat unanimously, however, becoming just the second-ever player, joining Tom Brady, to do so in the history of the league.
Let that sink in, folks. Not even Patrick Mahomes' dominant 2018 season earned him unanimous MVP honors. The last (and only) time it happened was Brady back in 2010.
Jackson's season was truly incredible, and historic to boot. The second-year QB threw for 36 touchdowns and just six interceptions while compiling 3,127 yards through the air. Meanwhile, he flexed his dual-threat capabilities by scoring seven rushing TDs and running for 1,206 yards, the most ever for a quarterback in a single season.
If there was ever a season worthy of being named a unanimous MVP, we just witnessed it in the campaign Jackson strung together, helping lead the Ravens to the top seed in the AFC.
Jackson becomes just the ninth player in football history to win both a Heisman Trophy and an NFL MVP.
After a breakout year that saw Jackson join some elite company within the NFL, he's been honored appropriately with this latest accolade. And there's sure to be a whole lot more headed his way in the years to come.
