Rays 'Raised a Banner' for Blake Snell Winning the MLB The Show Players Tournament and That's Sad
By Thomas Carannante
The defining moment in Tampa Bay Rays history came back in 2008 when the team made a run to the World Series behind the scorching hot bat of BJ Upton. Unfortunately, Joe Maddon's squad got steamrolled by the Philadelphia Phillies in the Fall Classic, and since then, the Rays haven't done much.
Well, that is, unless you're counting Blake Snell winning the MLB The Show players tournament while we're all in quarantine. Yup, Tampa raised a banner on Twitter, making this their first "achievement" since 2011.
We honestly couldn't tell this was fake, based on the Rays' history of memorializing non-World Series wins. Glad they stepped in and clarified.
But I guess we can call taking the Astros to five games in the ALDS while Houston was probably cheating an admirable feat, no?
Even more lame than the banner? This:
Come on, dude. Chug a beer or something. Tell Lucas Giolito he's nothing but a trade chip in the Adam Eaton deal. Can we get any form of entertainment beyond two people playing a video game?
Perhaps the Rays can take advantage of the (hopefully) shortened 2020 MLB season and raise an actual banner.
