Blake Snell toes the rubber for the Rays and has looked a far cry from his Cy Young self of 2018. He is 5-7 with a 4.70 ERA, but still has 122 strikeouts in 90 innings. His last two starts against the Yankees have been hot and cold. He held the Yankees to 1 run in 5 innings on July 6, but could not make it out of the first inning on his June 19 start in the Bronx, the worst outing of his career.

Yankees Lineup

The Yankees stack their lineup with righties against Snell as D.J. LeMahieu, who is tied for third in baseball with a .330 average, bats first. The powerful trio of Aaron Judge, Luke Voit and Gary Sanchez make up the heart of the order. Brett Gardner bats ninth and is the only left-handed batter in AaronBoone’s lineup.

James Paxton pitches for the Yankees tonight and has not been dominant yet, but has still has put together a quality season. The lefty is 5-4 with a 4.01 ERA with 95 strikeouts in 76.1 innings. In his only start against the Rays this season Paxton held the Rays to 2 runs over 6 innings and struck out 11 batters.

The Yankees still have a comfortable six-game lead over the Rays, but have a real chance to bury them and relegate them to the Wild Card race. Another series win for the Yankees could be in store, as they have gone 9-4 against the Rays this season.
