Red Sox Acquire Righty Andrew Cashner From Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles don't have a ton to look forward to in the business end of the 2019 season. And their loss is now the defending champs' gain: right-handed starter Andrew Cashner has been traded to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor leaguers Elio Prado and Noelberth Romero.
Baltimore will also include cash considerations to help seal the deal.

Boston’s 40-man roster is now at 40.
Despite the O's having a forgettable campaign, Cashner has played noticeably well, and it was already known that he was quite available. In 17 starts, he has a 3.83 ERA and a 1.194 WHIP. While he's no strikeout artist, the 32-year-old will provide the Red Sox with an answer in the rotation they've sorely needed since sending Nathan Eovaldi to the bullpen.
The Red Sox have acquired RHP Andrew Cashner from the Orioles. He has a 1.41 ERA with 0 HR allowed in his last 5 starts, having thrown 6.0+ innings in each of them. Since the start of April, he has a 2.75 ERA in 9 starts against teams that entered today with a winning record.

The Sox may need more help than Cashner can provide by his lonesome if they're going to get back over the hump in the vicious, unrelenting AL East. But for now, they've done well for themselves by adding a capable arm that knows the Yankees and Rays like the back of his hand.
