Red Sox Announce Starters for 2-Game Set Against Yankees in London
By James.r
Major League Baseball is set to arrive in the UK next weekend, as the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will take the stage during a two-game set at London Stadium. The series will mark the first MLB games played in Europe, and there's been significant excitement about the potential to grow the game on the continent, much like the NFL has done with its London series.
Now, we know who will be taking the hill for the Red Sox across the pond.
London won't get the chance to see the cream of the crop from the Sox' staff in Chris Sale and David Price, but they'll nonetheless get two intriguing pitchers. Rick Porcello is only three seasons removed from a Cy Young award, and Eduardo Rodriguez is a young arm with at-times electric stuff.
Porcello (5-6, 4.31 ERA) has been a bit disappointing since being crowned the American League's best pitcher in 2016, and his performance this season has been a far cry from that year in which he assembled an incredible record of 22-4. He may be coming around, though, as he's fresh off of seven impressive shutout innings vs. the Twins on Tuesday.
Rodriguez (8-4, 4.71 ERA), once one of MLB's top prospects, has also been underwhelming in 2019. Despite having the skillset of an ace, he simply has been unable to consistently put it all together on the mound, and that shows in his stat line.
Regardless of who takes the mound for the two teams, it should be exciting to see baseball in Europe for the first time. And what better way to inaugurate the tradition than with the best rivalry in the sport?
