VIDEO: Red Sox Draft Pick Blaze Jordan Hits Absolute Bombs and is a Perfect Fit for Boston
By Scott Rogust
On the very first night of the MLB Draft, Boston Red Sox fans weren't too fond of the performance by general manager Chaim Bloom. With plenty of top players on the board, Bloom selected Nick Yorke, who was projected to be a third-round pick, 17th overall. As it turns out, this was a galaxy brain move by Bloom, who used his third-round selection on Blaze Jordan, the best high school bat in the entire draft. If you needed evidence of that, just look at his performance during last year's High School Home Run Derby.
You can't deny that's some freakish power by Jordan. He sent those baseballs deep into the left field seats of Progressive Field in Cleveland! Jordan went on to win the derby by mashing seven homers in 90 seconds, and received a congratulatory hug from former Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts.
The Red Sox knew what they were doing with their picks. Since they took Yorke so early, they saved a massive portion of their $5.1 million in draft money, which allowed Bloom to make an aggressive offer to Jordan to (possibly) prevent him from attending Mississippi State this year.
If the Red Sox can secure his services, Jordan's going to be a problem for the AL East once he hits the majors.
