Red Sox Claim Veteran Reliever Josh Osich Off Waivers
By Parker White
After spending just one season with the Chicago White Sox after being claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles last year, left-handed reliever Josh Osich is on the move again.
Osich is heading to Beantown after being claimed off waivers by the Boston Red Sox.
The 31-year-old southpaw made 57 appearances for the White Sox in 2019, posting a 4.66 ERA with 61 strikeouts over 67.2 innings. Osich proved to be a lefty specialist, as he held southpaws to a .551 OPS as opposed to a .903 OPS when facing right-handed hitters.
Even though Osich possesses a mid-90's fastball and keeps the ball on the ground, you wonder if he'll be successful with the new three-batter minimum that's coming into effect in 2020?
The Red Sox need to make changes to their lackluster bullpen, so they'll willingly take a chance on a left-handed reliever with plenty of upside, even though he's proven to be a specialist who can only get one side of the plate out on a consistent basis.
