Red Sox INF Michael Chavis Begins Injury Rehab Assignment Friday for Pawtucket
By Parker White
Boston Red Sox rookie infielder Michael Chavis landed on the injured list back on Aug. 12 with an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder.
Despite a tough injury to come back from, Chavis didn't need surgery and he'll begin his rehab assignment tonight for Triple-A Pawtucket in Buffalo.
Chavis, who has mashed for the Red Sox during his rookie campaign, is still projected to miss at least a couple more weeks before returning to Boston. Of course, now that they're fading quickly in the Wild Card race, there's no rush to bring him back.
In 95 games for the big league club, Chavis has slashed .254/.322/.444 with 18 home runs and 58 RBI.
He certainly has some swing and miss issues to work on and was struggling mightily before going on the shelf, but his bat plays at the big league level and should only improve moving forward.
