Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz is still recovering from a gunshot wound to his lower back that reportedly damaged several organs, and he underwent what was described as "exploratory" surgery after arriving in Boston from the Dominican Republic earlier this week.

As of today, things are looking up for the future Hall of Fame slugger, and in a statement released by the team from Ortiz's wife, Tiffany, we have another positive update on his progress.

"Yesterday and this morning, David was able to sit up as well as take some steps. His condition is guarded and he will remain in the ICU for the coming days, but he is making good progress towards recovery," Tiffany Ortiz said.

That is such great news. Ortiz's condition is considered "guarded," but he's taking legitimate steps in the right direction. He will likely remain at Massachusetts General Hospital for several more days, but the difference in outlook between now and just three short days ago is striking. As always, Papi won't be deterred.
