Red Sox Reportedly Still Planning to Add Jason Varitek to 2020 Coaching Staff
By Sean Facey

The Boston Red Sox have found both their manager and bench coach for the 2020 season, but that doesn't mean they're done rounding out their coaching staff.
According to Pete Abraham, the team is still looking to carve out a full-time role for former franchise icon Jason Varitek.
Sox are planning for a more full-time role with the MLB team for Jason Varitek. Still working that out.

Varitek spent all 15 years of his MLB career in Boston, helping the team win two World Series titles. A three-time All-Star, he stands out as the most recent player in franchise history to bear the captain's 'C' on his jersey.
He's helped out the front office for the Red Sox ever since he retired, and he's even served as a special assistant to new executive Chaim Bloom.
Varitek's name was even tossed around as a possible managerial replacement for Alex Cora.

The grizzled catcher brings plenty of baseball wisdom and leadership skills to the table, things that would certainly be useful for this Red Sox team as they try to find their identity heading into the 2020 season.
Hiring Varitek would also certainly help endear the team to a disillusioned fanbase that suffered through an agonizing offseason that featured the departure of 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts.
