Red Sox Lack of Legitimate Pitching is Now an International Embarrassment
By Jerry Trotta
Practically every baseball fan in America knows that the central component holding the Boston Red Sox back in 2019 has been their sub-par pitching.
Let's face it. The defending World Series Champions should not rank in the middle of the pack in terms of team ERA a season removed from being so dominant in that imperative aspect of the game.
If the predicament wasn't already bad enough, it somehow got worse on Saturday. Boston's pitching staff surrendered 17 runs to the Yankees in Game 1 of their series in London, converting the state-wide embarrassment into an international epidemic.
If there is a positive to take from this shambolic display of pitching, however, it could prove to be one FINAL slap in the face to general manager Dave Dombrowski that Boston needs to be heavy buyers at the trade deadline.
The compilation of arms currently on his roster will be the driving force that prevents the Red Sox from achieving anything special this season.
Jus peep those American League standings, people. If the season ended today, Boston would be packing their bags for a longer-than-expected offseason.
If today's humiliating loss doesn't serve as a humbling wake-up call, nothing will.
