The Boston Red Sox made headlines Sunday night into Monday morning with the announcement that Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski had been fired.

The timing made this shocking, but there had been rumblings it could happen after the season.

Of course, we would know why this happened if ownership or someone in the front office would've held a press conference and answered some questions. That didn't happen, which is pretty classless on the part of John Henry and Co.

Instead, they left manager Alex Cora to do it.

Boston's power structure is pretty deep, so it's not like one of them couldn't have taken the podium. Instead, they gave those duties to Cora, who was hired by Dombrowski and had nothing to do with the decision.

Dombrowski has an old-school approach and isn't afraid of spending money or sacrificing the farm system to win now, which he certainly did over his Red Sox tenure. Could that have been the reason for his firing?

No matter how you slice it, giving Cora this responsibility with the media proves the Red Sox brass is gutless and that it's a circus in Beantown.
