Red Sox Lose Out on Front Office Candidate as GM Mike Hazen Signs Extension With Diamondbacks
By Sam Dunn

The Boston Red Sox have a massive decision to make if they want to start the post-Dave Dombrowski era off right, and after what just went down out in Arizona, their job just got harder.
General manager Mike Hazen has signed a contract extension to remain with the D-Backs, knocking off a familiar name that was surely on Boston's wish list.
BREAKING: The Diamondbacks have extended GM Mike Hazen for an undisclosed number of years. He was already under contract beyond this season. The Red Sox will be looking elsewhere.

Before Hazen joined Arizona in 2017, he had ascended to the role of vice president and general manager in Boston, serving effectively as Dombrowski's right hand man in the front office. Such built-in familiarity with the organizaton is valuable, but the Sox have officially fumbled their chance to engineer a reunion with the 43-year-old.
It comes as little surprise that Mike Hazen isn’t leaving Arizona. He’s fiercely loyal to the organizations for whom he works, as demonstrated when he turned down an asst GM job in San Diego several years ago to remain in a less-prestigious role in Boston.

The defending champs, already mired in a disappointing season that will almost certainly end with no playoff baseball, must go back to the drawing board.
