Red Sox Must Bring Brock Holt Back Now That it's Clear He Won't Get Overpaid
By Chris Pyo

The Boston Red Sox are doing their absolute best to try and get below the luxury tax, but that doesn't necessarily mean they have to go to extreme lengths to slash their payroll.
In fact, the Red Sox should be able to bring back fan favorite utility man Brock Holt, especially because he'll be more affordable than Boston previously thought.
The Red Sox are in agreement with free-agent infielder and former Cincinnati middle infielder Jose Peraza, per multiple sources.

This almost surely means Boston will not re-sign fan favorite Brock Holt.

With the signing of Jose Peraza from the Reds, it looked like the Red Sox were planning to move on from Holt, who had spent seven years with Boston and won a championship with them in 2018. Holt became the first player to hit for the cycle in a playoff game, which he recorded in a 16-1 rout of the Yankees in the 2018 ALDS.

Now, the Red Sox are unsure as to whether they'll bring him back, because they had previously thought that Holt would command a high salary on the open market.
However, the franchise could always use an additional utility man, and Holt has already established his reputation as a high-effort player. That's why he's so beloved by the Red Sox fanbase.
General manager Chaim Bloom should be salivating at the opportunity to retain Holt.
