Red Sox Top Pitching Prospect Noah Song Ordered to Pause MLB Career for Naval Service
By Max Smith
For now, Red Sox draft pick Noah Song's MLB hopes will need to take a back seat. After attending the Naval Academy for four years from 2015-2019, he has now been summoned by the Navy to report to the Naval Air Station Pensacola by June 26.
Song was originally commissioned as a Naval flight officer two weeks before the Red Sox drafted him, but he was allowed to pitch in the minors in 2019.
Song is ranked as the Red Sox No. 6 overall prospect after being selected in the fourth round of the 2019 Draft. In college, he put up monster numbers for the Midshipmen. In 54 starts over the course of his career, he went 32-13, posted a 2.37 ERA and averaged 11.5 strikeouts per nine innings.
Song continued to see success last year in the minors for the Lowell Spinners in Single A. In seven starts, he posted a stellar 1.06 ERA.
His fastball tops out at 99 MPH, along with a solid changeup and curveball. He stands at 6-4, offering a great frame for a future standout hurler.
Song will need to fulfill two years of military service before he can truly start his path to the MLB. Hopefully, we will see him progress into the star he can be in the future.
