Steven Wright's season with the Red Sox has taken yet another frustrating turn.

Boston's knuckleballer is reportedly headed to see Dr. James Andrews in regards to an elbow issue, the latest in a long line of injury woes for the embattled knuckleballer.

Dr. Andrews has earned himself the reputation of being one of the most respected sports surgeons in the world. Unfortunately, with that reputation comes the ominous connotation that pitchers who seek an opinion from him generally have some serious elbow problems that could require the dreaded Tommy John surgery.

Wright has struggled all year, both with injuries and performance. Toe problems have landed him on the injured list, and when he's been on the mound, he's pitched to the tune of an ugly 8.36 ERA, allowing three home runs in just 6.1 innings of work, despite a reputation as the Sox secret bullpen weapon.

Wright also served an 80-game suspension for using performance enhancing drugs.

The one thing he has going for him, at the moment, is his status as a knuckleballer. As a pitcher whose style is notorious for lack of stress on the arm, he can take solace in that whatever the injury may be, he may still be able to rebound from it to find the form that got him selected to an All-Star Game in 2016.

Hopefully, for Wright's sake, the injury bucks the trend and doesn't result in a surgical consult from Mr. Andrews.
