Red Sox Place David Price on the Injured List
By Parker White
On Thursday, the Boston Red Sox placed left-handed starter David Price on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist injury. Price's IL stint is retroactive to Aug. 5.
After an MRI revealed that Price possesses a TFCC cyst in his left wrist, he received a cortisone shot.
To take his place on the active roster, Boston has recalled right-handed pitcher Hector Velazquez from Triple-A Pawtucket.
This doesn't appear to be a long IL stint for Price, but his absence comes at the wrong time for a Red Sox team that continues to fall out of postseason contention, both in the AL East and Wild Card race.
The biggest weakness on this Red Sox team is their starting rotation, which Price hasn't helped too much this year. In 21 starts, the former AL Cy Young Award winner holds a 7-5 record with a 4.36 ERA and has 126 strikeouts over 105.1 innings.
It's been even worse since the All-Star break, as he's posted a 10.59 ERA over his last four starts.
