To fill Velázquez’s spot on the 25-man roster, the club selected RHP Mike Shawaryn from Triple-A Pawtucket. The club’s 40-man roster is now at 40.
The Red Sox have used Velazquez in a variety of roles this season, but he was mainly used out of the bullpen. The 30-year-old has made 18 appearances (seven starts) and owns a 5.97 ERA with 32 strikeouts over 34.2 innings.

Whenever he gets into a game, Shawaryn will be making his MLB debut. In 10 starts at Pawtucket, the 24-year-old posted a 1-2 record with a 3.72 ERA and recorded 46 strikeouts over 55.2 innings. Despite being a starter by trade, expect Shawaryn to be used out of the pen since the unit needs more help than ever at the moment.
