While their hated rivals have been the undisputed kings of injuries this season, the defending world champion Boston Red Sox have their fair share of injury bug bites to key contributors, most notably starting pitcher David Price and infielder Dustin Pedroia.

Manager Alex Cora claims that Price will throw a bullpen on Friday and should return next week against the Toronto Blue Jays. Pedroia will work out for a few days before starting another rehab assignment. In addition, utilityman Brock Holt will DH for Triple-A Pawtucket.

Price's return will have the most direct impact on wins and losses. Price has gone 1-2 with a 3.75 ERA in six starts this season. While not amazing, the left-hander needs to build off of his first impactful season with the Red Sox and continue to help the rotation get back on track. After a disastrous April, Boston's starters have a 2.91 ERA in May, and adding Price back into the mix will only help that number go down.

As for Pedroia, he will be great in the clubhouse, but he has almost certainly been Wally Pipp'd by Michael Chavis, a top prospect who has been hitting balls to Jupiter ever since he was called up.

The Red Sox finally have some momentum going, and hopefully Holt, Price, and Pedroia can get back to what they were pre-injury to prevent them from flaming out after a very nice start to May.
