Red Sox and Rays Release Lineups for Spring Training Opener Saturday
By Michael Luciano
The Tampa Bay Rays were able to stay out of the national microscope in the 2020 offseason, while the only the Houston Astros could shift media attention away from the Boston Red Sox in what can generously be called a turbulent time. Both of these teams have the chance to turn the page and kick the season off on the right foot when they play each other in a Spring Training exhibition.
Red Sox Lineup
Plenty of projected opening day starters will feature in this one, including Andrew Benintendi, Jackie Bradley Jr., and JD Martinez. Michael Chavis will hit cleanup for the Red Sox, while powerful third base prospect Bobby Dalbec is in the lineup, hitting seventh. Veteran Red Sox lefty Brian Johnson will get the start.
Rays Lineup
The biggest name in the Tampa lineup is former Padres outfielder Hunter Renfroe, who was acquired in the deal that sent Tommy Pham to San Diego. Another former Padre, outfielder Manuel Margot, will lead off, while stud second baseman Brandon Lowe and former Cardinals masher Jose Martinez will also get some time today. Former Marlins starter Trevor Richards will be on the bump.
Time will tell which of these two AL East foes gets off to a hot start as the snow starts to melt and baseball returns.
