Red Sox Reportedly Sign Left-Handed Pitcher Martin Perez
By Scott Rogust

The Boston Red Sox didn't enter the MLB Winter Meetings with a "Spend Big Money" approach. After signing second baseman Jose Peraza earlier on Thursday, the Red Sox made another transaction.
According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, Boston signed former Minnesota Twins left-handed pitcher Martin Perez to a one-year contract, worth $6 million. The deal also includes a 2021 club option for $6.25 million.

New general manager Chaim Bloom is trying to shed big contracts off the payroll, with his primary goal being to move David Price this offseason. Perez certainly fills the role of Price's replacement, considering he's a lefty as well.
Perez initially spent his first eight seasons in the majors with the Texas Rangers, before signing a one-year contract with the Twins last winter.

His stint with in Minnesota wasn't met with desired results. In 32 games, Perez accumulated a 5.12 ERA and 1.52 WHIP, but did earn a 10-7 record, thanks to the power of the Twins' batting order.
