Red Sox Sign Draft Pick Blaze Jordan and All is Right in Boston
The Boston Red Sox made the bold decision to draft 17-year-old Blaze Jordan in the third round of the shortened 2020 MLB Draft. The team only had four selections, so selecting a high school player was a big risk.
The third baseman had a commitment to Mississippi State and it was going to take a sweet deal for him to skip out on that. The Red Sox made that a reality, and Jordan has reportedly signed his MLB deal.
Red Sox fans can breathe easy now after the team spent what it had to in order to make sure Jordan didn't go to school. This is a significant deal for the teenager and may change the negotiating tactics for agents representing other picks outside the first round.
The money he commanded from the Red Sox shows he was better than his draft slot.
Jordan won the high school home run derby at the 2019 All-Star Game and didn't crack under the pressure in front of a full stadium and MLB stars.
With that bat and the perfect name for a Rex Sox player, expect Jordan to be a staple in Boston once he reaches the big leagues.
