Red Sox Sign Florida QB Feleipe Franks Who Suddenly Throws 94 Now
Florida Gator football fans better watch out! Their quarterback Feleipe Franks seems to be a hot commodity, but not in the element that most would automatically think.
Franks was drafted in round 31 of the 2019 MLB Draft to the Boston Red Sox and has now apparently signed with the team. According to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe, that contract included a $40,000 signing bonus for the quarterback.
But Florida fans shouldn't panic just yet. Franks has made it clear that he wants to finish out his football career with the Gators before making any major decisions about his future.
He is still interested in playing with the Red Sox sometime later on, and if he still has the same arm there's no question that the club will give him an opportunity, at the very least in the minors.
Despite lacking experience on the mound since his junior year of high school, Speier reported that Franks reached 94 mph on the radar gun just after being drafted.
That's 94 after five years off! I can't even imagine how sore his receivers' hands are at Florida.
Franks is coming off of a pretty good season with the Gators in his first year with Dan Mullen, having led UF to a Peach Bowl win. He produced an efficiency rating of 143.34, the seventh highest on the SEC and No. 41 nationally.
Next football season will determine if the Red Sox are the only franchise in Feleipe Franks' future, or if the NFL decides to come knocking at his door.
