Red Sox Slugger Rafael Devers Lost a Bunch of Weight by Not Eating Chipotle as Much
By Seth Carlson

The best kind of reward doesn't have to be something you gain-- at least not if you're Boston Red Sox infielder Rafael Devers. The 22-year-old shared that he cut down on his Chipotle consumption and hired a nutritionist this offseason to help regulate his weight and improve his overall physical health. The results are tangible, as he's hitting .306/.380/.434 with an .813 OPS for the season and is finally beginning to tap into the potential the Red Sox always knew he had.

Devers put on weight during the 2018 season, and his Chipotle cravings certainly didn't help matters. The added weight likely contributed to his injury issues in what felt at times like a lost season. A year later, Devers feels better, is hitting better and is even showing more emotion at the plate and on the field, per manager Alex Cora.
Rafael Devers is hitting .323, 5th highest in the AL and 11th best overall. he's .002 pts higher than JD.

At .397, he's got the 8th highest OBP in the AL. On the Red Sox, he sits behind Mookie and JD in OBP.

Devers still has a lot of room to grow, as he still plays inconsistently in the field. However, the fact that he was motivated enough to cut weight and manage his body has enabled him to be the best he's ever been at the MLB level so far. And there's no reason to believe he can't play at a high level going forward.
