Red Sox Slugger Steve Pearce Reveals He's Dealing With Partially Torn PCL
By Michael Luciano
We finally have a clear answer as to why Boston Red Sox first baseman/outfielder Steve Pearce has rarely seen the field this season and has been extremely ineffective when he has.
The 36-year-old Pearce revealed that he is dealing with a partially torn PCL he suffered while rehabbing in Pawtucket. While he is continuing to rehab the injury, don't expect to see him on the field anytime soon.
After hitting .284 with 11 home runs last year and taking home the World Series MVP after hitting three home runs against the Dodgers, Pearce has hit just .180 with one home run and nine RBIs in 29 games this season.
While it seemed like a no-brainer to bring him back after his terrific 2018, Dave Dombrowski doesn't look too wise in retrospect, as Pearce has an OPS+ of just 31, a career low. At $6.25 million, that's not a lot of bang for your buck.
Pearce's MLB future is looking very bleak given his age, performance, and the nature of his injury.
