Red Sox Will Not Guarantee Alex Cora's Job Security When New GM is Hired
By Jerry Trotta
The Boston Red Sox shocked the world of baseball on Sunday when it was announced that they fired longtime President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski following their loss to the New York Yankees.
In truth, the sacking displayed the complete opposite of class, as there are roughly 20 games left of the 2019 season and Dombrowski was literally the mastermind behind the 2018 World Series champion roster.
However, the organization's brass might just be in for a complete overhaul, as principal owner John Henry and chairman Tom Werner are currently refusing to guarantee that manager Alex Cora will be with the club by the time a new front office boss is hired.
“As of now, yeah. That’s how I feel,” said Cora on Monday when asked if he believes he'll be managing in Boston next year. “I wake up this morning and I feel like, yeah.”
But that confidence comes despite the fact that he's yet to speak to the franchise's front office on his future. “We haven’t talked about that,” the skipper continued. “I think we’re in the first stages of whatever is going to happen in the upcoming months.”
It's certainly fair to assume that Cora's job security is anything but safe when you consider how abrupt Dombrowski's termination was. Be wary, Red Sox fans, because you might be in for more massive changes in 2020.
