Reddit User Who Called Cozart Trade Says Angels Are Out on Gerrit Cole and Targeting David Price
By Scott Rogust
The main focus of the MLB Winter Meetings is ace pitcher Gerrit Cole and where he'll end up signing. The Los Angeles Angels have long been linked to the right-hander, and on Tuesday, traded the contract of Zack Cozart to the San Francisco Giants in order to free up money.
Reddit user "VivaELBONBON" actually predicted the Cozart trade five hours before it happened. If you want to take the user's words without a grain of salt, they continued by saying the Angles are out of the Cole sweepstakes, and will trade for Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price.
Again, this is all hearsay, and there are no confirmations that this user's comments can be taken as gospel.
The Angels were originally seen as the favorites to land Cole, but have taken a backseat to the New York Yankees, who are expected to give the former Houston Astros pitcher a record-breaking offer. Besides the Bronx Bombers, the Giants, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and two mystery teams are in the hunt.
Price is an intriguing backup plan for the Angels, if it is legit. The Red Sox have a new general manager in Chaim Bloom, who's looking to take some money off the books. Price, who signed a $217 million deal back in 2016, is set to make an annual salary of $32 million over the next three years.
The veteran left-hander is coming off a down season with Boston, in which he accumulated a 7-5 record, 4.28 ERA, and 1.314 WHIP in 107.1 innings pitched.
We stress to you to take this user's "reports" with a grain of salt, and urge you to follow the likes of Ken Rosenthal, Jon Heyman, and Jeff Passan for breaking news from the Winter Meetings.
