Reds Announce Eugenio Suarez Underwent Surgery for Shoulder Injury Sustained in Swimming Pool
The Cincinnati Reds were a bit of a disappointment in 2019, finishing in fourth in the NL Central with a 75-87 record. Entering the 2020 season, the team is surely anticipating a better go of things, following the signings of Mike Moustakas, Wade Miley, Shogo Akiyama and Nicholas Castellanos. However, some of the team's momentum was slashed following an injury to one of their marquee sluggers.
Eugenio Saurez, the Reds' best power hitter, apparently sustained an injury in a swimming pool and recently underwent surgery to correct his shoulder, which may take a while to fully recover from.
This is a significant blow for the Reds, as they need Suarez's power in the lineup to help them win, though the team is hopeful he will be back for Opening Day, or close to it.
Last year, Suarez slashed .271/.358/.572 with 49 home runs and 103 RBI. He was far and away the most productive hitter in the Reds' lineup, so his absence, if there is one, could hurt.
The Reds have put together a very solid roster for this coming year. If players stay healthy and avoid getting injured in borderline comical ways, then expect the team to be right in the mix for the NL Central throne.
