Reds Breakout Star Aristides Aquino is Doing Record-Tying and Magical Things in Cincinnati
The Cincinnati Reds have a new breakout star and he is absolutely dominating the MLB in the short amount of time he's been here.
Rookie outfielder Aristides Aquino has already clubbed 7 long balls in 10 games this season, including three home runs in a 10-1 win over the Chicago Cubs Saturday. He's producing moon shots at a rate not seen since Rhys Hoskins in his debut season with the Phillies and Trevor Story with the Rockies.
Aquino has homered in four straight games, and his three home runs in consecutive at-bats Saturday tied an MLB record. More than half of his total hits this year are home runs in only 28 at-bats.
In a rather disappointing season for Cincinnati, Aquino shines as a glimmer of hope for the Reds' future. The rookie is slashing .464/.500/1.250, an absurd line despite the small sample size. Aquino has become must-see TV every time he steps to the plate.
It's impossible to know when this slugging barrage will end, but we can only hope that the answer is never.
It looks like the Reds may have found their own version of Astros' rookie sensation Yordan Alvarez, who also had a three home run game this month. While this is obviously unsustainable, fans in Cinci will be hoping Aquino doesn't simmer down any time soon.
