VIDEO: Reds Slugger Aristides Aquino is Still Mashing in the Dominican League
By Ian Anderson
Reds fans can be happy on this cold winter day, as breakout right fielder Aristides Aquino is crushing baseballs in the Dominican League, as shown in this timely clip.
Aquino has earned the nickname "the Punisher" for a reason, as he absolutely uncorked this ball for the Tigres del Licey in the Dominican League.
Overall, though, he's had a rough start to the season with Tigres del Licey, having only a .175 batting average in 10 games. This helps the overall optics, though!
In his rookie season for the Cincinnati Reds, Aquino crunched 19 home runs and 47 RBI en route to posting a .576 slugging percentage in only 56 games.
The pop in his bat was evident in his limited appearances last season, and a full season of Aquino could do wonders for establishing a culture of fear surrounding Cincy.
The Reds had a disappointing 2019 campaign that culminated in them getting fourth place in a tough NL Central.
With new signing Mike Moustakas, a Cubs and Brewers backslide, and a full Trevor Bauer season, the Reds look to compete in '20, and Aquino is going to be a huge part of that.
