Reds to Pick up Option on Freddy Galvis
By Chris Russo

After spending 32 games in a Cincinnati Reds uniform following his midseason arrival from Toronto, Freddy Galvis will be back for more.
After Galvis finished with a combined 70 RBI on the season, the Reds have picked up his option for 2020.

Galvis' option came with him when the Reds picked him up off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays in August. Cincinnati will pay him $5.5 million for the season.
Besides the 70 RBI, he finished the season with 23 home runs and 28 stolen bases.
He also finished with a .989 fielding percentage, especially high for someone typically playing in the middle infield.

The Reds finished 75-87 on the year, in fourth place in the NL Central, though it still was an eight-game improvement over their 2018 campaign. Also, they only had a -10 run differential for the year, meaning they are closer to being relevant again than their record indicates.
Galvis' return is not a major signing, though he is a good enough player that a full season with him, as opposed to just 32 games, could help the Reds become a .500 ballclub next season. If not, he's an excellent trade piece.
