Redskins Claim Former Eagles RB Wendell Smallwood
By Parker White
A week before the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles square off, Washington will have a little inside info after their latest roster move.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Redskins have claimed running back Wendell Smallwood, who was waived by the Eagles yesterday.
The 25-year-old was drafted by the Eagles in the fifth round back in 2016 out of West Virginia.
Smallwood was entering his fourth and final year with Philadelphia, and in 37 total games he accumulated 850 rushing yards on 211 attempts, as well as 388 receiving yards on 47 receptions. As a multi-purpose back he scored five touchdowns.
Washington is already pretty set at running back with Adrian Peterson, Derrius Guice and Chris Thompson, but Smallwood brings more depth on an offense that looks like they'll struggle to move the football.
With Smallwood likely to round out the running backs room in Washington, the team parted ways with Byron Marshall.
You can bet the Redskins will hope Smallwood has some intel on what the Eagles are doing heading into Week 1.
