Draft Analyst Sees Redskins as Contenders for Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields in 2021

After an entire offseason of speculation about whether the Redskins were satisfied in their long-term security following a handful of middling games from Dwayne Haskins (spoiler alert: they're not), it's pretty reasonable to suspect that passing on Tua Tagovailoa doesn't indicate things are set in stone, either.

Per PFF's sources, the Redskins, err, do not seem to be counting on Chase Young's immediate impact to take them out of the football doldrums in Year 1. Rather, they intend to be very much in the mix for Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields next year, with either the No. 1 pick or something approximating it.

Pending a catastrophic season, Fields won't slip far past the Tua Tagovailoa threshold. It's still going to take a lot of tanking to get involved in the bidding.

But just because Haskins seems to be breeding some early skepticism, that doesn't mean he's getting Josh Rosen'd. He has a legitimate chance with the 2020 roster to make some noise, and if he harnesses his booming arm properly and forges a connection with fellow Buckeye Terry McLaurin, this conversation will sound a lot different next draft season.

For now, though, it's safe to expect the Redskins to be interested in Lawrence, the best QB prospect we've seen in years, as well as a solid 1A in Fields next April.
