Redskins Couldn't Stop Browns After Cleveland Told Them Baker Mayfield Would Open in 2-Minute Drill

The Cleveland Browns entered the new league year with plenty of hype, especially with all their improvements on the offensive side of the ball.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield helped to give a sneak peek of that hype on Thursday against the Washington Redskins, dusting them on an 89-yard opening drive by utilizing the two-minute drill.
According to Browns quarterback coach Ryan Lindley, the team told the Redskins prior to the game that they would be doing the two-minute drill at the outset. Even with the heads up, Washington still couldn't stop them.
“We let them know pre-game,’’ said Lindley, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “That was the deal. In preseason, we didn’t necessarily want to go blitzkrieg [on them] and catch them off guard. I don’t know how it went down. I just know we talked about like, ‘hey, you know, the referees knew, the other team knew and everybody was on board.'"
Not the greatest boost of confidence if you're a Redskins fan.
Mayfield completed 5-of-6 pass attempts for 77 yards on the opening drive, which included a 24-yard touchdown strike to receiver Rashard Higgins.
The Browns were essentially unbeatable on the night, and that came without star wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry in the lineup. Imagine what damage could have been done if they were active on Thursday night.
The Browns are going to use the two-minute drill to their advantage, and you had best believe the Redskins and their 2019 opponents will try and prepare for it.
