Redskins Desperation to Trade Trent Williams Shouldn't Tempt Browns
By Mark Powell
The Washington Redskins are all about trading proven, veteran talents -- just look no further than Quinton Dunbar. Yet, despite Trent Williams desire to leave Washington, the 'Skins asking price remains too high for any interested team.
Enter the Browns, which have been searching for a reliable replacement for Joe Thomas ever since the future Hall of Famer retired in the 2017 offseason. That's a long time to go without a stud at left tackle, but Williams shouldn't be that guy, as tempting as it might be.
Washington wants Williams off their payroll now more than ever, but their insistence on a high draft pick for his services is absurd. The man hasn't played in a full season and will cost enough in cap space.
The Williams-Bill Callahan connection makes it easy for Browns fans to plead for such an acquisition, but his cap hits for $10.85 million in 2020 and $12.5 million in 2021 would make such a choice unwise for those actually paid to pull the strings.
Williams is still an option for a reason -- no other NFL team feels the need to acquire him, at least not at the Redskins current asking price. Cleveland could use their draft capital for such a player, rather than acquiring a headache.
