2-Time Redskins Super Bowl Champ Dexter Manley Dealing With Serious COVID-19 Health Scare
By Jerry Trotta
Some unsettling news involving a former Washington Redskins star surfaced late Friday night.
According to his former Redskins teammate Daryl Grant, Dexter Manley, who spent nine years with the franchise, is struggling to fend off the coronavirus, which he tested positive for not too long ago.
A former fifth-round pick back in 1981, Manley has gone down as one of the biggest draft steals in Redskins history. Most fans in DC will tell you that the NFL snubbed him by only sending him to one Pro Bowl. He went an absurd seven consecutive seasons posting at least 8.5 sacks. That remarkable stretch was capped with a whopping 18.5 tally in 1986.
The former Oklahoma State star helped the Redskins capture two Super Bowls in the 1980s (1982 and 1987). Stats weren't meticulously logged back then compared to today, but the fact that he registered 91 sacks for the team tells you all you need to know about the force he was up front for Washington.
All we can do is hope that Manley pulls through. Our thoughts go out to his family during this incredibly difficult and scary time.
