Redskins End Trent Williams Nightmare and Trade Him to 49ers
By Michael Luciano
The Redskins had one of the best tackles in all of football on the roster in Trent Williams, but his frosty relationship with management forced Washington to push their Pro Bowl bookend out of town. After months of bloviating, Williams' trade wish was finally granted.
Williams was dealt to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2020 draft and a third-round pick in next year's draft, which is a steal given how dominant he can be.
Mike McGlinchey has the right tackle spot down, which means that Williams is expected to take over the left tackle spot from Joe Staley, who has been considering retirement.
Williams was picked fourth overall in the 2010 NFL Draft, and he rewarded the Redskins by being named a Pro Bowler on seven different occasions. Unfortunately for the Redskins, Williams decided to sit out for the entire 2019 season, citing a dispute with the team's medical staff over their handling of a tumor.
Williams gives a 49ers team that is looking to get back to the Super Bowl a rock-solid left tackle, while Washington finally got some draft picks in exchange for him.
