Redskins Fans Are Actually Buzzing About Alex Smith Being Next GM
By Michael Luciano
Alex Smith's football career is hanging by a thread, but he could end up with a nice golden parachute right into the Washington Redskins front office.
Redskins fans have been clamoring for Smith to be named general manager, citing the fact that he is invested in the future of the Redskins due to his relationship with Dwayne Haskins.
Smith has not played football since his gnarly knee injury last year that might have prematurely ended his career as a quarterback. Pivoting to executive work wouldn't be a crazy idea, but it would still be a bit out of left field.
If there is one person that Redskins fans hate as much as Dan Snyder, it's president Bruce Allen, who is in charge of football decisions. Allen, the son of Redskins coaching legend George Allen, has become a lightning rod for criticism of late, and 100 percent of it is warranted.
While Smith obviously has no front office experience, just about anyone would be a better front office hire than Allen, so this idea may not be as farfetched as it sounds.
