Redskins Are a Laughingstock Waiting All This Time to Trade Trent Williams for Basically Nothing Significant
By Jerry Trotta

It took until Day 3 of the NFL Draft, but the Trent Williams saga has finally concluded.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported moments after Round 4 got underway on Saturday that the Washington Redskins agreed to trade the seven-time Pro Bowler to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2020 fifth-round pick and a third-rounder in 2021.
Trade: Washington has agreed to send Pro-Bowl OT Trent Williams to the SF 49ers in exchange for a fifth-round pick this year and a third-round pick next year, league sources tell ESPN.

Yikes, Washington.
So, the Redskins waited all this time to get a pair of mid-round selections? This all but confirms that Washington is still a part of the NFL's laughingstock. It really makes you wonder why a deal wasn't agreed upon sooner.
The package is brutal considering that there was reported to be several teams, including the Cleveland Browns, heavily interested in acquiring Williams this offseason. Given the unforeseen delay, most fans were convinced that the Redskins were holding out for much more than they received -- perhaps a second- and a third-round pick, or something along those lines.
The #Browns were also among the teams who showed interest in Trent Williams, but did not make an offer. Other teams sniffed around, but it came down to the #Vikings and #49ers. Familiarity for Trent Williams on SF’s coaching staff.

As for the 49ers, well, their already lethal offense just added arguably the league's most dominant left tackle. In terms of Draft winners and losers, San Francisco has to be at the top of the list. The rich keep getting richer.
