Redskins Making the Right Call Not Putting the World on Dwayne Haskins' Shoulders on Day 1
By Kevin Aquino

There could be a whole lot of mixed emotions going on in Dwayne Haskins' head at the moment, but ultimately, it's what's best for the team.
The Redskins announced they would be going with Case Keenum as their starting quarterback come Week 1, allowing the rookie Haskins to sit back and observe. It's the right call.
The #Redskins like what they’ve seen from Dwayne Haskins — the arm talent, how he hasn’t made the same mistake twice. But it’s not easy for a rookie to step in and know how to be an NFL player. So it’ll be Case Keenum to start, as Haskins waits. https://t.co/YYX3uu1pJB

Haskins could eventually become third on the depth chart when Colt McCoy returns from injury, but the former should make the most of the opportunity. Haskins can breathe a sigh of relief that an entire city isn't counting on him to always make the right play at 22 years old.
Haskins has thrown one touchdown and two interceptions through Washington's 0-2 preseason start, which could be a result of jitters, but going with the veteran Keenum is the safer route to take.
Colt McCoy will miss his second preseason game. Case Keenum continues to be be the smart bet to start Week 1, barring Dwayne Haskins suddenly lighting it up. https://t.co/8ZxqReBSbM

It wouldn't be a surprise to see Haskins slotted into the starting spot should he show improvement as the year progresses, especially if the Redskins find themselves out of the playoff race early on.
