Riverboat Ron is officially back. After surprisingly being let go by the Panthers before the end of the season, Ron Rivera figured to be swooped up by a new team sooner than later.

Well, after speculation throughout the week a deal could be made, the Washington Redskins went ahead and closed things out on Wednesday morning. Yup, 2020 has started with Rivera as the new leader of the team.

After firing Jon Gruden back in October, the job became open for someone to step in and try and get the organization back on track. Washington just finished up a horrific campaign, which saw them go 3-13. That had them in dead last of the NFC East standings.

With plenty of young talent, though, the Redskins are hopeful they can turn things around. Dwayne Haskins is the quarterback of the future, while a top pick in 2020 should see them bring in another elite playmaker.

Rivera's made it clear he's ready to grind ASAP. While other candidates like Marvin Lewis were getting serious looks from the Washington higher ups, they've tabbed Rivera to make them competitive again. Time will tell if this move turns out to be brilliant, or another disappointing one.
