Redskins President Bruce Allen May Finally Be on Thin Ice Amid Consistently Terrible Tenure
By Sean Facey
At long last, the Washington Redskins are finally showing at least a shred of accountability.
Team president Bruce Allen has regularly proven himself to be ineffectual in his role, as no front office move or draft selection has been able to move the needle and change the balance of power in the NFC East. But it now seems that his once strong standing is starting to wither away, according to reporter JP Finlay.
It's unthinkable that it took this long for there to be internal rumblings of change. During Allen's 10 years as president, the Redskins have failed to make the playoffs even once. They've sputtered to a record well below .500, and have shown few signs of life along the way,
Even the players themselves are upset with the team. Star offensive tackle Trent Williams refuses to play over how they handled what ended up being a very serious injury.
Allen's tenure has run the team through multiple coaches and multiple public relations crises. But this year's abysmal 2-9 campaign that has caused fan interest to plummet might just be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
At least some folks out there are keeping things light, however. A Boston reporter who coincidentally goes by the same name as the Redskins team president made sure to ask NFL insider Ian Rapoport to keep him posted.
If Allen does find himself in the unemployment line, it might be proof that there is some shred of dignity in that organization after all. Years of struggling ineptitude might finally result in some positive change.
Of course, these are just rumors, and until team owner Dan Snyder decides to show Allen the door, it's nothing more than talk.
